How do we push forward the growth of IMC in Africa. Presently I volunteered to handle African IMC applications at IMC-Process. I hope in the coming days I can find time to write to the IMCs awaiting final approval(Zimbabwe, Uganda,Kenya,Swaziland and others) to see how far they have gone and to help them throught the last state of approval process.
There are some activists in the States who are trying to Organise money to support IMCs in Africa. The point is we need to look at the issues and be abit more clear an specific on what is need. That will ease the task for the comrades intersted in supporting our project.
Some ideas could be:
a)To Organise an IMC African meeting where we'll not only bring together prospecting and approved IMCs but also other people involved in media work in Africa to discuss the IMC concept and how it can be applied in Africa.
b)There is also the idea of may be, Organising a "African Indymedia Caravan". A bus full of computers and people with technical-know-how to make a tour of Africa, teaching people both the theory and practical of indymedia.
Here we will need to know how practical this is? How many countries? For how long will the Caravan go on?
Obviously we will need contacts in the countries in question. As well in the other countries so that people from the other countries can join as well in the process.
May be we hold first an African indymedia meeting where we discuss and arrange the Caravan. Or the other way round the Caravan then the African indymedia meeting.
It will be really nice to know what you people think. As whatever way it is to go we need to start planing that now.
