date/time: Monday 13th October 2003. 20:00 CET
Since a while now we've been trying to get IMC activists participating in the
BtB tour to use it as an opportunity to both enchourage and share technical
knowledge with those already invovled in indys in Africa. As it has come to be
known that some of the African indys have their technical stuff being done by
people based out of the continent. Also there is the hope to use the tour as a
platform to introduce indy to a more larger community of people doing community
development political work in Africa. The tour is starting this month with the
gathering of activists in the the area of Almeria-Spain. And as of next month to
get on the move through North Morocco, Mauritania then Senegal. This far there
were indications from some imc-Canaries activists that they could be involved at
this stage of the tour; but there have not been any precise information on that
again. So just a month before the tour leaves for Africa we still do not have a
coincise information of indy actvists that could help run indy workshops in the
first part of the tour. Lots of focus is being given to the part of the tour
that will take part in Senegal where the topic of focus will be alternative
media with focus on indymedia. Yet there are some perculiarites on the first
part of the tour that could really be worth getting some indy activity there.
-1.) In North Morroco memenet(the other group invovled in the tour) have contact
to some Morrocan groups involved in community development project that are
struggling with getting their projects online thus a potential for persons who
could be interested in indy.
-2.) Mauritania one of the countries on the tour root will get presidential
elections in November; just a month before the tour get's there. Some weeks back
the president released from jail his main opposition leader. Here people have
been oppressed for years with the army running the show. Yet there are persons
who have with their limit menas been trying to resist the system. It probably
will not be bad idea for such persons to be introduced into the world of
indymedia durign the time the tour passes by.
You are hereby invited to participate in the next network-wide IRC meeting on
the BTB tour dued for monday the 13th October 2003 at 20:00 CET. Channel #btb
