Hello All
Having left cold snowy Switzerland, we were welcomed to the warm African sun and hospitality.
Four days have sped away as we carry out our promised conference logistics.
Meeting at the crack of dawn and going to bed in the wee wee hours after work and meeting with students in local eating places.
Having had very little contact with the other activist (except with sphinx) who are in Senegal, we would value to get together to exchange and share a beer. WE ARE STAYING ON THE CAMPUS:
University Dakar Direction de la cooperation et des investisesment
TELEPHONE:
(00 221) 865 00 40 ask for Annex 43
Room: Glenda and Michaela Nr. 2, Maureen Room 8
We are being hosted by Prof. Aly Mbaye - Dept.Economics and the many other staff.
The university is at the coast line of the city. AND CANNOT BE MISSED
All stops are being pulled out to support and accommodate us for the indymedia conference.
Academic staff and students are all excited at the prospect of being exposed to the concept and all are eagerly contacting various bodies to invite.
We have had an array of meetings with academic staff, student bodies, student unions, student political bodies and the turn out is promising.
We have been allocated workshop rooms to include computer/film resources able to accommodate between 17-50 people at any given time. For 1-14th March at the
Department of Economics.
PLEASE CONFIRM THE INDYMEDIA SKILLS AUDIT FOR THE PLANNED CONFERENCE for example is there film, video, security, audio- people here and any other specific issue skill for example dance, music etc.
WE MUST AT LEAST MEET THE OTHERS THIS WEEKEND IF WE WANT TO START ON THE 1st
As planned the conference programme is the following, which is confirmed once again in the last mail on the link.
1-5 March introduction ( allowed lee way for late arrivals)
6-11 content workshops
12-14 Conclusion and party
THIS IS IMPORTANT SO THAT THE RESOURCES ARE APPROPIATE.
A SMALL BASIC FLYER WITH VENUE, TIME, DATE AND BRIEF CONTENT DETAILS will as we and a small team of students will distribute it on FRIDAY 27th FEB.04
We have also organised translators from the student bodies English:French
We have also met with the Permanent Sec. Mayors office- and have been given permission for indymedia/caravan to pitch a tent up at the seaside for festival activities for the local people at: MONACO PLAGE AND VOILE DOR PLAGE for dance, theater, music etc
We have also set up meetings for tomorrow with 4 grassroots base groups:
Rural road building by the community-Acord
Malick Gaye Center Dakar Slum skills and small enterprise development
Literacy projects for women and youth
Community radio
These groups are all eager to be exposed to indymedia and to learn more about the formal consensus and starting IMC in Senegal. We all feel good and productive with the hospitality and want to see this idea become the first Regional African grouping/outreach happen in Senegal for the rest of Africa.
Michaela, Maureen and NeBe/Glenda
