Kwaheri??! Your swahili is surely better than mine. John from froming imc-Kenya
taught me kwaheri is "good bye in swahili" and that is all of my swahili though
:-))).
Hei! We are happy to hear from you especially seeing you are in the continent.
I'll copy John this mail as he has been shuttling between Tanzania and Kenya
doing some community video project. I'll as well copy Onyango Oloo; they are as
well invovled with Organising imc-Kenya too, so surely may have other contacts
in Tanzania. Am also coping Mike Onwukwe(Dar es Salaan) whose article about
Transperency International made him known among critical voices in Africa (check
article in www.ambazonia.indymedia.org ).
So you guys could start contacting groups and discussing about the organisation
of imc-Tanzania. Here your alternative media organising skills should be very
helpful. Which at the begining probably should have to do with clarifying the
diffrences between Alternative Media and mainstream or state controlled media,
which is not a developed sector of the activists community in Africa, at least
not in Ambazonia where I am from. You can also get more indymedia specific
information on the issue at http://newimc.indymedia.org
We are going to get an Alternative(indymedia) Media Conference in Dakar Senegal
from the 1st to the 14th March 2004. At the conference it will be about
discussing indymedia in debt and having an exchange with activists involved in
other indymedias in Africa and forming indymedias as well as other media
projects. Sharing experiences and discussing how to adapt indymedia to the
African society with it's known shortage of technical infastructure, and how one
could solve problems faced by imcs in Africa is surely going to be at the centre
of the discussions.
So if you can get down to organising right away, in the coming days you'll
probably be able to may be get together a group that could organise a Tanzanian
delegation of three persons for the Dakar conference. There after you could
indicate and we'll include those who cannot afford the fair to Dakar in our
lists of those for who need transportation to Dakar.
