Since 1999 when indmyedia saw the day of light at Seattle the network has
developed in leaps and bounds. Much of that development have been in the global
North thanks to the well developed multimedia infrastructure. Which both allows
for quick and cheap production of  content for the media. Yet there have been
great advancements made by indyedmias in South America in adapting the concept
of producing media content within a non-hierarchy    organizational  structure,
in a society with not so good multimedia infrastructure. The existence of very
good social structures developed over the many years of social struggles in
South America as well as strong support from global North activists  is amongst
 amongst the many reasons that account for this development.
On the other hand indymedia development and growth in Africa have been very
slow. To  give the indymedia Africa growth process the push it needs, the
indymedia African working group in support with other activists groups took upon
Organising an Alternative(indymedia) Conference in Dakar from the 1st to the
14th March 2004.
In this Conference we’ll be having delegates from  ; South Africa, Ambazonia
(Ex-British Southern Cameroons), DRCongo, Angola, Kenya, Madiaq (South Spain and
M orocco), Nertherland, Germany, Switzerland, UK and USA. Three quarters of the
delegates will be   from Africa. 

The main point of the Conference will be to exchange experiences and know-how on
the way forward with indymedia in Africa, with the less developed social support
structures as well as the less developed multimedia infrastructure; which have
accounted for the quick and rapid growth/development of indymedia in it’s four
years of existence.

The success of this endeavour is now being threatened by the lack of funds to
cover the fairs of  the African Delegates to the conference as well as take care
of the delegates during the 14days of the Conference. We are hereby soliciting
for donations to support the Conference.
