Hello Grace, John, Gilberto, Jean and Frank,
Fernanda, Dapina, Babacar, Mory and friends.
* So it seems you all have arrived rather happily in
your own cities and are full into the swing of things
with fresh passion and ideas.
As promised I am having a meeting with 4 main people
from the organization I told you about who are with
the first African driven development/funder-human
rights based organization.
They all meet in Zurich for a meeting and I will have
dinner with them on Saturday. To include the main
contact person to rural/urban Senegal NGO's.
I know a good many of their real community based
projects and want to explore support from another
angle.
But will only pass on the networking information once
I am sure that this is the appropriate link.
They have projects in almost every African country
where human rights violations have occurred.
* Gilberto and I travel on the same plane back to
Lisbon and he had less trouble than I, you see he was
going back to Africa and I was entering Europe.
* Grace I will tomorrow take the bags for some
people to look at. Sold the small one for Sfr25 X
Cfr.400 + - , it will take a time before I am able to
establish the appropriate receiving agent for them
with a fair price. I am in the network of "FAIR TRADE"
and will pass this networking contact onto you with
more specific details within the next two weeks.
* Have been speaking to Rafel regularly both
telephonic and email in respect to the GOREE ISLAND
campaign. Tomorrow he will have more specific details
and we will work out what our contribution can and
will be given our resources.
* I need to speak to Valentine and have been unable
to reach him as I would like to run a few ideas and
suggestions by him in respect to the Goree Campaign.
VALENTINE WHEN YOU MODERATE THIS MESSAGE PLEASE MAKE
CONTACT.
* Spoken to Dapina twice and we here are trying to
get him access to the resources to get a good bike
which will help with transport within the villages
where he is doing his job.
He has also started organizing meetings with people he
knows who have an expressed interest in alternative
media as well as having arranged to meet Fernando and
Mory to get some work shopping on how to use the Mini
disc recorder her was left.
(for people to know there were two mini disc recorders
taken to DAKAR a suggestion to leave it there with
appropiate people/group.
The decision was taken to give the student core
group-Mory one, the other to Dapina in cooperation
with Fernanda who has agreed to call for a meeting to
establish a group for the first forming indymedia in
Dakar-but with no pressure from outside as his
contribution is a voluntary one. He holds down two
jobs and is an activist that the police keep an eye
on)
Dapina is going to arrange a meeting with the student
group-Mory asking for help/instruction and support on
"HOW TO OPERATE THE MINI DICS"/ to make a small
workshop.
Dapina is also the link and contact person to Rafel
and will be working with him on the Goree island
campaign.
Dapina will end his main income job at the end of the
month and devote his time to finishing his video film
on the migration of the Cabo Verde island people to
St. Louis and Dakar and the reasons.
This film has been accepted by the local Senegal TV
station and will be screened in this year.
He is also been engaged in radio/audio transmissions
and would like to work more closely with Rafel. they
meet this week end.
* Fernanda was given the telephone chip/contract that
was purchase for the INDYMEDIA conference and will
retain this number as a Senegal-Dakar-future INDYMEDIA
base telephone contact number.
Will let her have a mobile phone in about a months
time.
FOR INFORMATION THE NUMBER IS: (221) 5121404 (IKEN was
going to hand it over to her before they left Senegal)
* Babakar has made contact with Rafel- he will spend
much of the time with JOSE who is putting together a
film of Goree.
He is very interested in being a part of the indymedia
forming in Senegal. He is in his 3rd year of law at
the university. He has an interest in human rights and
gender.
* Rafel and I are looking at the option of getting
money together to get a radio specialist from Berlin
onto the island to radio-fy it.
Valentine if you read this it is about Electra. if you
call me I can share the basic brain storming idea with
you before it is written down as information. The
transmitter/mini disc/ghetto blaster-IDEA can become a
reality on the GOREE ISLAND- a pilot of the idea.
NO CONTACT HAS BEEN MADE YET, ONLY AFTER RAFEL HAS
MORE CONCRETE STEPS WILL IT BE THE NEXT STEP.
This idea was talked about with the two Berlin
people-Daniel and Sven who both thought the idea a
possible positive contribution.
Rafel has already identified three main organizations
operating on the island
-The university of mutant
-The Sudan institute-George Soros Foundation
-The madam Mitterand Foundation
I am busy checking these organizations out.
RAFEL HAS A DREAM THAT EVERY DAY HUNDREDS NO THOUSAND
OF PEOPLE VISIT GOREE AND HAVE A REFLEXION OF THE
AFRICAN PAIN. TO FEEL THE PAIN, TO SEE FOR THEMSELVES
THE POVERTY ON THE STREETS.
THAT A THEATER/MUSIC/ -CULTURAL ACTIVITY IS USED AS
ANIMATION FOR THE IMPULSE-WHAT IS THE MEANING OF
SLAVERY-ITS HISTORY AND ITS PRESENT DAY FORM.
THAT THEY BELIEVE IT IS POSSIBLE TO WORK TOWARDS PEACE
AND A NEW WORLD ORDER AS A COLLECTIVE WITH OTHER
ACTIVIST WORLD WIDE
perhaps a theater group in Senegal will take up this
challenge, Or from some where else who knows.....we
can network the idea and see what happens....
I will network this dream with the African Association
for contemporary Culture in Senegal and see what comes
out of it.
Someone else said "I have a dream"
Lets mobilize for solidarity for a better world.
Lets call for festivals and parties in response to the
war of terror and terrorism
