(i put this up for discussion, Strype hid it, please make
sure you're always trying to refer to something in our ed
policy when you hide something - only the whole group can
designate a post or someone as spam) (this is not a block)

Under problems for immediate action it mentions
'profit-motivated advertising'. Others may disagree but I
think Scientology definitely counts as profit-motivated. I
hear ya though and I'll keep it in mind.
Re: the process thing - I know I just agreed with your
proposals but I think there is a real danger here of
getting bogged down in documenting process. In ChCh we had
had some tense exchanges over a process policy that was
established and then openly flouted as it turned out to be
impractical.
Our process is open and fairly organic and so far it has
worked well. I think any process policy should be
documenting the process we are using rather than attempting
to create a 'correct' one out of thin air.
In terms of designating spammers for example, what is the
most practical way to do this?
Proposed spammer policy:
1) Whoever identifies the problem proposes the designation
on the ed list (or is this important enough to be audited
by the main list subscibers?)
2) If at least 2 other volunteers agree and there is no
dissent, the spammer is added to the list on wiki and all
their future postings immediately hidden.
3) If there is dissent refer to the 'dissent policy' ;P
Proposed dissent policy:
All decision-making in A-IMC should be democratic and
accountable. To make this possible organising forums of
A-IMC (email groups and realtime meetings) should be made
easily accessible to the general public, through open
archives (including meeting minutes sent to lists),
summaries and wide promotion of how to join.
1) If a decision is made - an announcement should be sent
to all relevant forums with including the contact details
(eg email address) of the proposer.
2) If someone disagrees, they should contact the proposer
and seek clarification on their points of disagreement.
3) If clarification correspondence does not resolve the
issue, the dissenter should make an announcement to the
relevant forums, explaining clearly their basis for
dissenting.
4) The expression of dissent does not prevent the proposer
from continuing to develop or implement aspects of their
proposal as an individual - but they do so without the full
agreement and support of the collective.
5) Discussion should continue in the organising forums
until consensus is reached.
