really, boys can hide things that are offensive to girls! just as i as
a pakeha would happily hide a racist post........it's called support!
anyone can be offended by bigotry/sexist behaviour, not just those who
are directly targeted. in fact, we ALL of us have the RESPONSIBILITY to
counter it.
nor i think we have been petty - if anything i think we have been rather
lenient with dk and patient up til now.
i hid those dk posts in question because they where a whole bunch of
random information along the lines of 'we received your correspondence'.
highlighted notes, scanned lists of something....they weren't news in
the form he posted them in. and i really feel we've tried long and hard
enough to get dk to post in manner which is vaguely comprehensible.
right now i am sick to death of doing ed work because all i get is
abuse. that really makes me reassess how much energy i can put into
editorial work, i don't even feel like looking at the wire atm becuase
there will be more abuse there aimed at me. whats more, anti-queer,
anti-women abuse. that doesnt' make me, who is both those things he
hates, feel particularly great.
we are volunteers, we do this to make the world a better place not to
have shit dumped on us. of course i expect to have some abuse thrown at
me doing indymedia and activist work in general, i'm pretty thick
skinned most the time, but enough is enough!! once a person starts the
level of abuse dk has done (and *coninually* done) then sorry but i
don't feel a responisibility to the attacker, i feel a responsibility to
those he is attacking, and a responsiblity to preserve the integrety and
usefullness of the newswire.
also, <when the code changes> i don't see why the ability to delete a
post would change the ed policy. things would still get hidden not
deleted unless we had very good reason to do so. we have just been
discussing ed policy for biotech imc , and decided to delete things like
child porn, and posts designed to eat our bandwidth, but of course
everything else still goes to the hidden section. it's good to be able
to delete things sometimes......
