Hello!
My name is Lisa- I help run an organization called Save Animals From
Exploitation- New Zealand's only registered national animal rights
organization. We engage in a number of campaigns against the use of animals
for entertainment, for bloodsport, for experiments, for clothing, for
factory farming, etc etc etc.
I'm based in Auckland where we have been, (among many other things,)
actively opposing the circus that has been in town for the last few months
by, (among many other things,) showing up right outside the showgrounds and
performing street theatre, speaking in a megaphone, distributing
information, making a great spectacle of ourselves in hopes of getting
people to seek an alternative source of entertainment for their kids. The
Whirling Brothers circus (recently re-named Three- Ring American circus)
keeps one elephant, 3 lions and 5 monkeys enclosed in tiny dark crates from
20- 22 hours a day, every day.
We have lots of digital footage of our demos, which could be edited into a
fantastic documentary. (You can view some of it at www.meatfreemedia.com .)
If anybody could help us with making a documentary, you're sure to end up
with an incredible piece. The ringmaster and his cronies never fail to chase
us, threaten us with death, pull a knife on us, break into our cars and
steal stuff, whip us in the face with golf balls, flash us, scream at us,
attack our banners, the list goes on. Fun family viewing for all! Our
protests are creative, we're a group of intelligent people with interesting
things to say, we've got heaps of footage of Jumbo the elephant slave
swaying back and forth in her cage, hitting her head against her tiny lorry
in despair, loneliness and in attempts to escape the destitution that makes
up her life. A documentary screening could hopefully bring us more
volunteers, as well as the attention the mainstream media has neglected to
show us. Because the legal code governing animals in circuses is coming out
within a few weeks, it is imperative to call attention to the issue as soon
as possible so that we might be many in the fight to join the growing number
of countries that have banned the use of animals in circuses altogether.
I look forward to your response,
Lisa Shalom
(Attached are photos of our blocade of the entrance to Procter & Gamble
headquarters in NZ. P&G is notorious for unnecessary and barbarous animal
testing.)
