Whoa, hang on there. It's cool that duncan wants to get ssh access, as long as he knows the difference between ssh and ftp, and promises not to format any text with white backgrounds :-P Oh and you should let me show you around via irc.
But . .
Leith is also asking for ssh access to work on the print pages, we should implement some kind of approval process. (not just on the tech list)
I'm on catkore - cat's organising list, this comes up a bit - this is how they do it:
- Someone asks for access and why they need it.
- If no one objects within a week (two days is not cautious) then they get it.
Simple eh (that was so simple that I don't know why I made a list). The difference is, we (the tech people) are going to have requests from people that we have never worked with, which makes things difficult.
I think that people with passwords should:
- Have a good understanding of html [not dreamweaver, frontpage etc]
- Know a wee bit of php
- Have had a good play with ssh/scp and basic *nix commandline in a sandbox. What are you doing with your account on pink.cat.org.au duncan? Would you be happy if a folder on that was used as a play pen for people new to ssh/*nix?
Also we should be rotating passwords once every two months - this would be a good time to do it.
Err, so anyway, I think that you should post a request on the a-imc list, and I'll talk to leith and see if he wants to do the same.
