I know this had been discussed a lot but one solution would be some kind of script that allows the cities list to branch out when you hold your cursor over it. Maybe a little heading saying something like "global indymedia network" and a little picture of a globe. Holding your cursor over that would give you a list of the continental regions, each with a little heading and picture and holding over those would give you the individual indymedia sites with their picture. Clicking on any of the pictures would link to the appropriate site eg the globe to indymedia.org, the picture of the pacific to the imc-oceania site and the picture of New Zealand to aotearoa.indymedia.org.

I think we are obliged to have it on the front page and it does emphasize the global news network aspect of indymedia but that way it need only occupy a small space.
