I am contacting you from IMC Ireland. At the moment we have begun =
making plans for the re-run of the Nice referendum. For the weeks =
leading up to and during the referendum we are planning to open a =
temporary centre to which we will be inviting groups to do a series of =
talks both pro and against the treaty. And also discussions on =
alternatives to it.

We will be inviting groups from all over Europe, particularly from EU =
countries and countries that are up for enlargement as they will all be =
affected by the treaty but their publics are not getting a say. There =
are also suggestions from anti-treaty groups that there may be an =
attempt to hold mass demonstrations in Dublin in the days before the =
referendum.

We would like to invite members of the IMC's around Europe to come and =
we offer the facilities of the centre to you. Please contact me at =
amandacarol@eircom.net with any questions or to let us know if you plan =
to come.

We can't say for certain at the moment what dates this will be as our =
government has yet to call a polling date but it will most likely be =
late October- early November.

=20

For those not aware of the situation it is that our constitution =
currently prevents any treaty being signed in Europe without a =
referendum. So for the Nice treaty Ireland was the only country to have =
a referendum. And if even one country rejected it, it was not to go =
ahead. This has not entirely been the case. Last summer we held the =
referendum, which was surprisingly defeated by, roughly 2 to 1. Instead =
of accepting that our government apologised to the EU for us, as they =
said we had voted wrong and told them to go ahead with the treaty they =
would make us vote again. The EU has gone ahead with a number of =
projects, which they needed ratification for and we are been sent back =
to the polls. =20

We have been told by our government and by EU commissioner Chris Patten =
that we were stupid and selfish for voting no which is why there is now =
a movement to invite people in Europe to come here and tell us what they =
actually think as we know many people are opposed to the treaty but our =
mainstream media seems to ignore the fact.=20
