Free access to bristol.indy

I think that with our outreach work we need to
acknowledge there is a real problem with the inherent
elitism of internet access.
Mike has proposed that we start re-conditioning old
PC's and providing them free to community centres etc
that already have the internet but no facility for the
public to use it - which i think an exellent idea.
I think that we should have a page on the site called
"resources" or somting similar. We could list all of
the places where you can log on to the site for free.
I also think that it would be worth putting the
addresses at the bottom of at least some of the
leaflets that we produce.
These places would be the library, any community
centres that we have provided PC's for, and also any
comercial internet cafe's that will allow free access
to the site.

I would like to approch 'juice' the cafe by the
arches, and easy-caf on the corner of ashley rd and to
ask them if they will provide 10 minuites of free
access to bristol.indymedia if their customers ask for
it.
The sweetener for them would be that they would have
their cafe listed on our resources page and
sporadically (and at our discretion) on posters/
flyers that we produce.

I think that if this arrangement can be agreed then it
could form the basis for more involvement ie, they
agree to help people upload audio or video files, have
indymedia as their homepage, display stickers on their
PC's put posters up etc.

I realise that any commercial involvement in the
indymedia project is likley to be viewed with
suspicion- and rightly so. However i think that the
terms of this agreement are such that it works
strongly in our favour- as well as the fact that we
can drop them from the resources page and any
literature at our discretion.

I will leave this proposal for a week for any
objections-
If there are none in that time then i will aproach the
two cafes to see if they are interested.
I will then report back and leave it another week for
any final objections and finally (and ever so nicely)
ask Mike or somone to make the "resources" page
cheers Sam
