[IMC-bristol] newswire abuse

Hi,

I agree the newswire is getting clogged up with this shit and its reputation
could suffer. The question is what to do about it. As Ian points out, there
are two areas that these sorts of posts could contravene the editorial
policy:
- an " attempt to monopolise the news wire "
- supporting "party politics"

But IMHO, it is difficult to claim that 'arealbristolian' and 'aspidistra'
are monopolizing the newswire while saying that other regular posters of
genuine interest such as anarchist606 and Bristolian are not...if we can
show that the former are posting more often than the latter, I'd say fair
enough to boot them off.
Supporting party politics - the posts seem more concerned with sad and
pathetic abuse of the Bristolian, rather than actual support of any
political party.

The only grounds I can therefore see is the category of 'abusive
lifestyles'...what do people think?
Otherwise, much as I'd like to find grounds for getting rid of this rubbish,
I can't find anything which gives grounds to hide these articles...perhaps
the best solution is to work on another re-working of the ed. policy?

hello

There seems to be alot of anti-Bristolian pre-election drivel being posted
up on to the newswire. Its motivation seems to be political and an attack
on the Bristolian party in the run up to the Mayday elections. In my
opinion this is neither news and seems a blatant abuse of the news wires
intended function... To the extent that BIMC's reputation & integrity
could be jeopardized if this continual hijacking and monopolizing of the
newswire continues.

There seems to be two main offenders, both anonymous - one called
'arealbristolian' and 'aspidistra' . So should we do something about it ?

I propose to start hiding this stuff as I believe it contravenes the
current editorial guidelines. The following articles are good
examples...These were posted up on wednesday

http://www.bristol.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=5134&group=webcast
http://www.bristol.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=5124&group=webcast

Today we had another
one
http://www.bristol.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=5166&group=webcast
i've already taken the liberty & hidden this one..I'm gonna write something
to this effect on the newswire explaining why ...

Your opinion is needed on this matter so please post a reply

cheers
