Dear Ghada,

I'm sorry you think IMC Bristol is puritanical but I think I can answer the
more substantive of the points you make below:

The global structure of IMC was decided in an open, democratic and
consensual manner. The Bristol IMC therefore decided to carry a subset of UK
news, ie that which is directly relevant to the South West. Similarly, the
UK carries a subset of world news, namely that which is relevant to the UK.
This structure allows people in particular locations to read and post both
locally and globally important information. So if your story is not directly
relevant to the South West, it can be posted on the UK site, for example.

If articles of no local relevance were not hidden, the newswire would
quickly contain many of the same stories as UK indymedia -- wouldn't this be
a waste of cyberspace?

In Bristol IMC any individual is welcome to join the group or discussion
list, recommend changes to policy and help administer the site. I don't see
how this makes the group elitist.
