Hi all,

sorry I have not mailed extensively lately about what happens on
the mir front, here an update and an invite to participate:

regional UK IMC's have their own 'startpages' with their own
middle columns and their own Newswires. When we go live with the
new MIR site you all might not want to start empty-handed. you can
now sift through an import of the existing UK database (as of 19
april) and pick and choose what you want for your regional IMC.
these startpages are not necessarily 'integral part' of the new
imcuk site but can be fed by importing/exporting rss feeds from
and to sites with different databases like bristol, wales and (in
future) scotland. well that's the idea.

there are two websites now to do things, one for experimenting and
playing around; and in addition, there is now a 'migration site'
at http://uk.indymedia.de set up. this will be the one to go live:
the idea is that regional collectives can classify content for
regional newswires and middle columns BEFORE the launch of the new
site, so that no regional IMC is empty. in the coming week(s)
regular new dumps will be added to keep it in sync with the actual
state of the live site. any classifications made here will be
preserved. you can go back in time as far as far back as to 23
july 2000 which is when we used active for the UK for the first
time. detailed instructions are on the twiki
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/UkMirGrabYourArticles

check the UkMir Wiki there anyway, lotta stuff documented there...

in another mail to network and process i'm fwding questions about
what kind of content classification we should set up

cheers andi
