Hi all
I hve been thinking about the edit suite converstaion
last night.
(The cube have provisionally offered some space under
their auditorium for a server, which immedetly made us
wonder if it would be possible to have a edit suite
there as well. People seem to have some reservations
about the viability- mainly that we would only have
access when the cube is open and then would have to be
quiet if there was a showing etc)
My thought is that a edit suite is basically a decent
computer with decent hardrive space, the location is
not such a critical thing..
So how about If the edit suite was a decent laptop
(with removable/ interchangable harddrive system as
discussed) which could be kept in a flightcase/
ammunition box and locked in the cube's space with a
(carefully guarded) combination lock number.
This would mean that it could be used in the cube's
subterrainian space when convenient, but if someone
wanted to pull a all nighter they could just stick the
flightcase in a car/ cab and do the editing at home.
(some kind of online booking system would have to be
developed)
Laptop insurance seems to be about £60 a year so that
would be viable as well.
My thinking is that this could prove especially useful
if people wanted to do some work with elderly/
disabled as the eqipment could be taken to them rather
than the other way around, It could also be good for
longer events such as 'shut down dsei' or outreach
where a mobile edit suite would be, well mobile.
Not sure how we would pay for any of this, but still
it's good to dream...
laters
Sam
