[IMC-bristol] New Website Software

Hi Folks,

I have created a test site for the new dadaIMC software, which I propose
we use for Bristol Indymedia.

I have installed the software on a development server, here in Bristol,
and made some basic modifications to the site, including a style sheet
to match the existing site and disabling most of the features that we
don't currently have on the existing site.

Two things I have left in are the "Media Gallery" and the "Info Docs"
sections. The first gives us a nice page showing all the images and
media files posted. The second gives us a simple content management
system allowing editors to update the info docs such as mission
statement, contact details, editorial policy, etc.

The admin is different and we will all need to learn to use the new
system. For now, the username is imcvol - password is same as before.
Go to:

http://bristoldev.ath.cx/editor/

The test site address is http://bristoldev.ath.cx

Touch wood, I have a process running each night that copies the archive
from the current site, newswire and features. If you see a site with no
features or newswire items, don't worry, it will probably be back soon
after - it occasionally falls over for various reasons.

Once everyone has had a chance to look at the site, and I suggest we
have a hands-on session to teach people the admin process, and if
everyone agrees, then I hope we can switch over fairly quickly.

There's still some things to be fixed up, such as a way for the old
links, eg from google, to point to the correct articles in the new
site. But I'm confident I can fix that.

Any bugs or issues, please mail me off the list or to the tech list
[imc-bristol-tech at lists.indymedia.org]. If anyone wants a tech session
to look at the code or the new features then let me know.

For some fairly good documentation on the software, including user
guides for users and editors, and for more general information, see:

http://www.dadaimc.org

Cheers,

Mike
