IMC activists have made a concerted effort to both keep the site as free
from hiding/editing influence as possible within the bounds of our agreed
aimes: open access for all. It has been discussed several times at IMC
events and meetings and from feedback we have received that many people
are put off from commenting on the site because of the nature/strength
of some of the comments. This is a fine line we tread with an open access
site. We wish to provide freedom of expression for all, provided that
freedom of expression does not inhibit the freedom of others to express.
There will be times when we get it right and times when we get it wrong.
We can only apologise to those who feel unfairly treated by the times
we do interfere and ask them to understand the difficulties we face.

In regard to suspending Crash as an IMC volunteer – I am against any
such action and do not believe he should resign. He is correct to state
that the emails in question are public knowledge and once in the public
domain – are there to stay due to the archived nature of internet content.
I tried a google search to find the emails in question and could do
so without any trouble at all. Crash has not violated any of our guidelines
by attempting to diffuse the strength of comments on IMC; indeed he appears
to have been trying to follow what was agreed at IMC meetings.

If anyone feels that this policy is a bad one, that is an understandable
position and as we are open for anyone to join – please feel free to
join the collective and argue for a new position.
