[IMC-bristol] Squabbling and Debate

What I think others find unacceptable about JV, Jographer and probably
Zaskar is the humerous apllication of intelligence to silly and pompous
posts by some of our more excitable contributors. I have tried to calm down
a bit but I refuse to join in the mutual PC backslapping that goes on and
will continue to be contributing my often unpopular thoughts.

All is lost in IM if it just becomes a sterile zone where we all have to
tell eachother how cool we are for peeing in macdonalds.

Many very serious issues are trivialised by the chidish and frankly
aggressive responses to reasoned criticism when a really interesting and
informative discussion may have taken place.

I may have been too flippant in the past, but crikey, you can hardly blame
me.. I will never forget that classic about our plodding local council
recieving the accloade of 'imperialist oppressors of the people', hoho....

This site is alive and evolving and I am excited to a part of it but i do
begin to think that some note of caution should be added to the guidelines
about personally abusive and threatening responses to logical, thoughfull
comments.

To my way of thinking telling someone to fuck off cos they dare to disagree
is opressive and wrong and just makes you look silly and unsure of yourself.
Dissent and debate is what IM is about, we should never seek to stifle that
but those that defend their position with personal attacks should be
suffocated.

Now I must be carefull not to be hung by my own petard. Tell me if i go too
far.

JV and Jographer, keep it up.... We are probably all on some looney (oops)
militants hit list now, but hey, opression from the establishment or the
anti establishment is always wrong and I am getting used to it after 20 odd
years of saying the 'wrong' thing for the 'right' reasons.

Cheers.

Mark.
