Hi,

At the risk of repeating myself, yes, I think waiting till January is too long. This issue does appear to be reaching crisis proportions. I wonder how many users we will have left if this carries on.

All the hard work for the new codebase is irrelevant if the proportion of news vs. bitter comments continues to approach zero. But hopefully people will help us by posting their solutions onto Angie's thread.

Thurs eve is fine for me too.

hello

I said in an email 2-3 weeks ago that the comments were getting out of
control. The posting below confirms this.

http://bristol.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=10860&group=webcast <http://bristol.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=10860&group=webcast>

After reading this I feel ashamed to even be associated with this
project. We need solutions and we need them quickly.

options ( excuse my lack of tech know how )

1- can we gather IP addresses and ban the offenders? ( does the new code
base allow this mike/ellie? )
2- can we take the comments off line until we come up with a suitable solution?
3- Would a site that is 100% moderated be a solution ( drastic I know but
deutsch IMC do this i believe...)
4- can we moderate all comments b4 they appear on site?

My immediate feelings are to ban the persistent offenders out right & ban
them now. If the IMC software does not allow this then perhaps we need
software that does ( Mir has this function ) - but we need a solution in
the short term.

I hope other people will take the time to address this problem as it only
seems to be getting worse.

Do we need to have an emergency session to thrash this out? ( thurs
evening is good for me in case we do )

cheers
ian
