[IMC-bristol] minutes 18 12 03
crash
crash at subsection.org.uk

Items discussed last night:
* The behaviour which is deemed unacceptable is the posting of other
users' personal information to the site, and incitement of violence
against individuals
* Consider re-posting threads without comments where thread becomes
personal and off-topic
* Consider having a banner at the top of the page with a link to a
complaint form for people who feel they have been threatened
* Insert a check box that has to be ticked stating that 'I have read and
understand the guidelines' on the comment post form; alternatively
include a short version of the guidelines in the comment area
* look into modifying the new software so that previewing your
article/comment is possible
* evaluate the guidelines drawn up some time ago, but not yet adopted
(copy circulated at the meeting - can someone please circulate them
again? They were originally posted by Kyra some months ago here:
http://lists.indymedia.org/pipermail/imc-bristol/2003-April/000758.html
- but are unreadable)
draft statement for newswire below. This is more specific than the
current guidelines, but I am trying to stay close to the new draft
guidelines mentioned above, which were prepared and circulated at the
meeting on 10th April this year. However, I didn't write down any
comments / criticisms of these at the meeting last night.
/*
Recently several follow-up comments to the newswire post have turned
into personal discussions, sometimes abusive, sometimes threatening,
against individuals using the site. Posts which incite violence against
individuals, or attempt to monopolise the newswire are not acceptable.
BIMC believes the purpose of the comments feature is to enable debate
and discussion of the original post.
We are in the process of clarifying the site editorial policy
(http://bristol.indymedia.org/about.php3); a public meeting will be held
to discuss these and we intend them to be available in the new year.
*/
Feedback and suggestions for amendments to the above, please. Also needs
a title!
Cheers,
C
