PRESS RELEASE

FROM EXETER STOP THE WAR COALITION

DEVON JOINS BRITAIN'S BIGGEST EVER MARCH

More than 30 coachloads of peace protesters from Devon are set to join =
what looks like being Britain's biggest ever march on Saturday February =
15th. The march in London is expected to attract up to one million =
people. This will be a global day of protest and there will be marches =
in over 50 capital cities around the world.

Local organisers in Exeter Stop The War Coalition have been overwhelmed =
by the response both in Exeter and across Devon from people wanting to =
go on the march to show their opposition to war. In Exeter alone at =
least ten busloads of protesters will be joining the march and tickets =
are selling fast; 70 tickets were sold in one day alone last week at the =
Exeter Peace Shop in New Bridge Street.

Local campaigner Lizi Allnatt said;

"We're being inundated by phone calls from people desperate to find out =
how they can join the march to show their opposition to war. People have =
been sceptical about the justification for war and Colin Powell's lack =
of tangible evidence at the United Nations on Wednesday brought another =
wave of phone calls. Thousands of people are going to die in Iraq for =
the sake of Oil and Western power in the Middle East.

All over Devon people are organising to show their opposition to war. =
For example three coaches to the protest have been booked in Crediton. =
In Torrington this Saturday the town's mayor will be making an anti-war =
speech at 11am in the town square.

People who are unable to make the protest in London will be holding =
gatherings in solidarity and support of the London march in Exeter, =
Crediton, Totnes and Honiton. In Exeter people are meeting at 12 noon on =
February 15th at Eastgate in Exeter High Street."

The stall that Exeter Stop The War Coalition campaigners have been =
running every Saturday has been inundated with people desperate to sign =
petitions and take badges, leaflets and posters.

Tickets and information about coaches are available from The Peace Shop, =
New Bridge Street in Exeter. Phone 01392 431447 for details.

For further information please ring Lizi Allnatt on 07855 732435

For further information regarding the mayor's speech in Torrington =
contact Dave Clinch on 07713 147719

If you are interested in sending a journalist on the coaches with the =
local campaigners to the Feb 15th protest please ring Lizi Allnatt on =
07855 732435
