[IMC-bristol] Server Costings - Draft

Current hosting options, as follows:

1) Cube Cinema, Pipex DSL Line

est cost - £500 for 1 year [£25/month pipex dsl with fixed ip, £10 month 
dedicated BT phone line, + £100 for an ADSL Router / £80 for ADSL PCI Card 
[untested].

Advantages:
- maybee the phone line can be our "Audio" facility - kate has a system for 
putting recorded messages online, using a voice modem I assume.
- builds a link with the cube
- good access to server
- cube is a co-operative, owned by it's workers

Disadvantages:
- none really
- giving money to corporates [pipex, bt]!


2) St Pauls Unlimited - co-located server in St Pauls Learning Centre

est cost £500 per year / maybee free

Advantages: 
- may be cheaper / free, and also potential to facilitate / assist other local 
projects
- build links with local groups
- probably better bandwidth [1 or 2M connection?]

Disadvantages:
- The learning certre is not built yet!


3) Brand new, dual processor Tyan system, £2k :)
Leased line to the cube, £8k?

Anyone got any more info on hosting / bandwidth options?

Potentially, we could go to the cube for the first year, and if and when the 
Learning Centre comes online, we could hook up a wireless link from there and 
cancel the pipex account.
