Hi all,
as you know we have migrated to mir. To administer the site, i.e. to
hide postings (colloquially known as wire cleaning) and highlight
postings from wire into middle column, we are all using the same login
and password, "uk". But this software, mir, allows us to have individual
logins and passwords.
This is very exciting but just needs implementation. I'm helping
implement it. Ideally, we should get rid of this common login by
saturday or sunday. So those of you who want to help out 'cleaning' or
doing mid.col. features, please come forward to this list and/or contact
your nearest Kollective - there are kollectives in Bristol, Cambridge,
Lancaster, Leeds, London,Manchester, Oxford, Scotland, Sheffield, Wales,
West Country and West Midlands? There will be some one in that
collectives able to set up an account for you or redirect you to some
one else. Look at the cc list of this emai or see the contact page on
http://indymedia.org.uk/en/contact.html.
Then one of us will create an account for you, and you wil get a login
name and password.
In a very near future you will be able to easily change your password
once you have logged in, and a bit later, I'd like to see the
possibility for any one to request the system directly for their own
account, as happens now on twiki, or when you request to be suscribed to
an email list. The techies are working on this, as well as in many other
things that need implemented.
It is _very_ important that you come forward as soon as possible, before
the weekend if don't you want to stop having access to admin page. Of
course you can always come and ask for an account later on - it's never
to late to help! It will only mean that you won't access the admin page
until you do so.
I think it is reasonable that when you ask for an account you indicate
your preferred login name in this list, not for a password. Then in a
private email you will receive confirmation and a password.
You can also go to the irc channel (i explained in a previous email how
to get there), don't get scared if a technical discussion is going on
but also bear in mind that they are working on something. Also bear in
mind that if you ask for an account there you may be asked who you are.
So that's all, thank you all for your collaboration on the site!!
