hello lisa
thanks again for sorting out our server problems. Your continuing help on
this project is invaluable and well appreciated down in ze west country.
It seems as if BIMC is nearly ready to host its own server in the cube
microplex - may be that will happen by the autumn - einshallah. A meeting
with you and tony etc would be a good idea. We''ll organise it at our end
and meet somewhere convenient ( is the Foundry a good venue for this ? )
My thoughts on the MIR migration - it seems to have been a smooth
transition. The site seems more stable. I'm not sure though how this will
affect regional pages on the site...Like Mike i'm a fan of regions hosting
their own. I think a network of truly autonomous indymedia sites would be
a more solid foundation. concentrating efforts on a common server for the
UK could be a good thing ( we definitely need a solution to hosting
streaming video content )- if regional indymedia sites apply for funding
and pool resources then this could happen. Being a computer philistine i
can't really comment about the Java thing...indymedia has always been
heavily dependent on a handful of computer geeks - whether they code in
java or not seems irrelevant, as a user whats more important is having a
reliable & stable site - on that level the MIR migration seems a good
thing. I had my first play with the backend of the site on saturday and
again it looks good - greater functionality and easier to navigate. I
don't like the white background though...paint it black.
personally i'm a fan of the san fransisco code.
cheers
ian
