hi all
seems that despite the site going awol for a few days big things are afoot. has everyone seen this thread:

http://www.bristol.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=6803&group=webcast

as per the posting from our be-pseudonymed imc compadre:

"Within the next couple of weeks a meeting could be set up between. CEED- possible location of community server and computer re-cycling centre. The Cube- Linux experts and possible location for community server. Bristol indymedia- some volunteers seem keen to be involved in installing opensource software and other tech issues. CLAN- the people who can help make it wireless St Pauls Unlimited (SPU)- the most 'mainsteam' partner and the people most likely to be able to get funding for the server and other costs. We could get some funding from St Pauls unlimited and get a server set up within a month or two. Working with the computer recycling people based in the create centre (I can't find their details online at the mo but i know they exist) we could have 100 Pc's donated by local buisness and Opensourced up and ready to be given away to st Pauls residents by October(ish). Parallel to this CLAN could be getting some funding from St Pauls Unlimited to spend on the wireless bit's we would need. If instead of the 'Kiosks' (which i think would be underused and very expensive, <standing on the street in St Pauls preoccupied with somthing else is a good way to get mugged- sad but true>) BCC/ SPU could offer to pay for the broadband in specific residents houses on condition they become a 'hub' in the network, by early next year we could have a good chunk of St Pauls covered by a wireless network- and be able to provide free linux based PC's (with tech support) to anyone who wants them.

Or we could faff about have a few ineffective meetings, argue amongst ourselves and blame everyone else when SPU becomes the government run top-down organisation that all too many regeneration schemes have turned into. It's our choice- which is it to be people? "

so, i'm up for getting involved - should we call this meeting with the above people?
would need a couple weeks notice so people can free up time to come...
sounds great idea tho, well done, and lets get on with it,

kyra
