thankyou to the person who uploaded the St Pauls's carnival feature - its
great to see people taking a pro-active role in updating the middle
column....however there were a couple of things that in my eyes were wrong
with it.

1- photo : i reckon that photos should be no bigger than 130 pixels & no
wider than 200 pixels. Use a programme like photoshop to resize & then
upload it on the site( you can hide it after when you're done with it ...)

this photo was also hotlinked from a council website - again this is not
very good web etiquette

2- I strongly object to having direct links to the BBC on features ( i've
taken the liberty & changed this link to the carnivals website which I
think is of more relevance )

3- in my opinion features should stem directly from the newswire - then
people can comment on them if they agree / don't agree with it. This is
not always possible and yes i've done the same in the past but in
retrospect I think this is a good way of working...it reduces the role of
'editing' and allows middle column features to be in the words of the author.

These comment should be taken as criticism of a constructive
nature. After all we all want the website to look as good as it is
humanly possible...

cheers
ian
