Nice one Mike! I really think we need to get a press release out on
this as it might help to generate funds and equipment? I've drafted
a sample (below) see what you think...
Iraq Gets an Indymedia Site
Indymedia, the open and free internet publishing websites described by
one writer as; "Potentially the most radical local media development
in 100 years" has come to Iraq. After over 20 years of media control
and oppression under Saddam Hussein’s brutal regime, Iraqi with access
to a computer can now read, write and debate events in their own country
on an equal and uncensored media platform.
The site was set up by Bristol Indymedia volunteers and opened for business
today. While currently hosted in Bristol, the hosting will be relocated
to Iraq once equipment and infrastructure in Baghdad permit. The site
is co-ordinated by local tech volunteers, local people who are travelling
to Iraqi to deliver humanitarian supplies and contacts developed by peace
activists on the ground in Baghdad during the recent war.
The project has appealed for funds, equipment and volunteers to maintain
and expand the site.
