[IMC-bristol] For attention of John Serpico

Dear Kyra,
No offence taken as my email was meant to be sarcastic. I think in this
context it is forgivable. You of all people must know how avid a reader of
your site my boss is. It was a cheap anf pointless crack he had at me. I
don't know the reason.
I have no other way of getting in touch with "John" except through you and
had referred the email for his attention clearly. I accept that the
journalism aspect is not an issue and I apologise - it was directed at him
(although I also know he's not a journalist as we have had some conatact
since Monday).
I didn't intend that email for publication - having never dealt with you
guys before - I thought you could pass my email on and certainly did not
mean it to reflect my views on the site or members of staff/volunteers.
I'm sorry if that has caused you any inconvenience.

Dear Sarah,
your contribution to this discussion list is welcome but next time could you
please provide a URL for the article you're discussing: i've just had to
trawl through the site to find out what's got your goat! to save others
hunting around, Sarah's email is in response to a comment john s posted at:
http://www.bristol.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=5858&group=webcast
just so that you know for next time, to respond to a posting the usual
procedure is to do so via the comments system on the site, this being one of
the key points of an open publishing system, that we can all raise and
debate points openly and equally. in choosing not to, and to instead send a
sarky email to the entire volunteer team, your mail unfortunately runs the
risk of illustrating john's comment that: "none of these journalists
actually contribute anything to the site. All that they can offer is snide
comment and indignant objections." (no offence, but that was rather your
tone!)
With regard to "standards of journalism", perhaps you're missing the point
but this is an open community project, anyone can post their views on what
matters to them, no proofreading, no editing, etc. i think our standards are
quite different to the Evening Post's: centering around equality of access
and so on rather than any journalistic 'code'. its quite a different thing,
and as such should not be approached as competition for professional
journalists but as a forum for all to have their say.
"cause of the left": you've lost me there, so can't respond to that bit...
we appreciate your interest in the project and would welcome any
constructive contribution you may be able to make. although as Bristol
Indymedia volunteers we do not have any argument with the Post or their
staff, the contents of the site can only reflect the views of those that use
it to air their opinions.
Kyra

Dear John,
Thanks so much for your insightful piece on what I have apparently said to
you. Nice to know that your standards of journalism are so high that you can
attribute quotes and comment to people without their knowledge and consent.
I know that it's not difficult to write the things that you do and that it's
nice to get things off your chest, so well done for that.
It's also nice to know that the cause of the left is in such safe hands. If
ever I was worried, I feel reassured now.
