"Hello we are contacting you in order to invite you
to Bristol community newsday - 'Making the media'
14th June 2003: at the Cube Cinema Microplex, Dove
Street South (off King Square) Bristol
We hope that through the workshops we are offering,
everyone who attends will leave with new skills, and
that it will provide a good opportunity to get in
touch with people with skills in media production, or
to find intersting projects to work on.
The event is running from 12:00 until 23:00 but people
are welcome to pop in for just ten minutes, or to make
a day of it and stay for the whole day.
Hosted by the Bristol Indymedia volunteer collective,
with a suggested donation of £2.00 - but no one will
be turned away for lack of funds
Morning
OPEN SESSION for anyone with an interest in
grassroots, independent local media. Whatever your
level of (in)experience, this is a chance for you to:
- share your experience, enthusiasm and ideas
- find people to help you with your existing project
- find out about existing projects and get involved
- find like-minded people to start something new
Afternoon
a range of entry-level workshops, such as:
- how can I get my press release covered?
- how do I get my video footage onto the internet?
- tips on producing newsletters and other print
communications
- wireless internet with CLAN (Easton wireless
internet collective):
- broadband radio and pirate radio: whats it all
about?
Night
local and not-so-local independent film and video and
music: eat, drink and plot whats next in the
convivial atmosphere of the cube.
This event is designed to celebrate the range of
independent media activity across the city, and to
provide those who are, or would like to be, involved
in community media projects with an opportunity to
meet, debate, learn, share skills, and make plans for
the future to ensure that this high level of activity
is sustained.
To confirm attendence e-mail:

"(bristol indymedia) could become as influential as
any major local paper or TV news programme.
Potentially the most radical local media development
in 100 years."
Eugene Byrne, Venue magazine. June 2002
"Bristol Indymedias great strength is that it is
owned by everyone in the city. Its great weakness so
far is that nobody seems to know that except a number
of activists and politics anoraks like me." Eugene
Byrne, Bristol website, 18/5/03
We are working toward making our website accessible
to a broad range of people and have invited a variety
of non-profit and community groups to this event whom
we hope will enjoy meeting others with an interest in
community media.
