hi all

kyra here - my Rnetmail account is finally dead. please email me from
now on at kyra at compactdance.org.uk

am attaching the minutes of last meeting, and also pasting them at the
foot of this mail in case anyone cant open them.

sorry for delay in doing this.

re: tony's article, as the minutes hopefully make clear, the decision to
move the article back to the general newswire was collectively taken,
and i am sure i speak for everyone present at the meeting when i say
that we had no idea we were unleashing such a furore. clearly we need
to sit down as a group and go through the public and volunteer site
guidelines in order to avoid any future wrangling like this. it would
be good if any ill will between tony and ian could now find an outlet
off this list.

went to ramzi's talk in bath on friday and to the global village voices
presentation by uk-imc and others yesterday at the watershed so will
write up articles on both for the site asap.

seeyou tonight at kebele or soon.

MINUTES OF B-IMC MEETING: 10/11/03 @ KEBELE
twelve people attended (two left to attend other meetings after first
forty minutes or so)

 >all present introduced themselves.

 >feedback from the UK-IMC meeting in sheffield - four b-imc volunteers
attended this meeting in October.

 >this led to mention of migrating our site to the new server - need to
set a date for a tech-meeting, date to be agreed on the list

 >Rhys mentioned the May 2004 May Festival project to celebrate our
city. Several people expressed an interest in finding out more about
this. discussion to continue on-site

 >Funding:
 >>server move requires money for telecoms, and worth having money
in-hand in case we should ever need a new hard disk etc.
 >>community media day 2004: generally agreed that the media day in june
2003 went well and we would like to have one next year: The Spark
magazine offered to help fund such an event in 2004, but additional
funds would be required
 >>screenings: if we could raise £2,000, we could pay the Cube £1,000 up
front for the year and drop the entry charge, allowing people to attend
for free. need to set a date for a fundraising meeting, date to be
agreed on the list - several people expressed an interest in helping
with this

 >Screenings:
 >>tony has films for Auckland IMC and one on Plan Colombia that we can show
 >>agreed that we should allow time for discussion/ feedback/ updates
from those attending the screenings, in line with IMCs
from-representation-to-participation principles.
 >>debates started at screenings could be continued on the site, we
could encourage people to write reviews of screenings/ meetings/ events
 >>next screenings: 19th Nov and 3rd Dec at the Cube; 9th Dec at the Hat
& Feather, Walcott Street, Bath.
 >>26th Jan is the preferred date for our screening that month - kyra to
confirm with Cube on this

 >Calendar:
 >>agreed to add a sentence on the calendar to encourage people to come
back to the site and publish a review of their event
 >>agreed to add function for 'commenting' on calendar postings, e.g. so
people can amend price/ venue etc.

 >Site Update:
 >>it was noted that Tony had promoted his own posting to the middle
column. This contravenes a principle which other volunteers see as
important: that you cannot promote your own postings. If you really
feel strongly that a posting of yours should go up in the middle column,
this should be discussed on the email list. Although concern was
expressed that Tony had already left the meeting and so could not defend
his decision, all present felt that the article should be taken out of
the middle column for the above reason. It was agreed that b-imc
volunteers try to be as hands-off as appropriate with the site, but that
the few rules we do have should be adhered to, in order to avoid double
standards. Concern was also expressed that demoting another volunteer's
posting was a sensitive issue and that we should make clear to Tony that
this was not a personal matter. All present agreed that the article
should remain in the newswire as it doesnt contravene any other
guidelines, and so that there would be no issue of censorship.

Publicity:
 >>agreed to start a publicity capaign for the site in general as well
as for screenings in particular

 >We heard that a GPMU activist in Bristol is to be taken to the High
Court by the Evening Post. agreed that b-imc is not an entity that can
offer support as such, but that as individuals we were keen to see if we
could help. anyone who attended the talk on this at the Cornucopia on
the 11th to feedback to the group via the list
