Hello IMC,
I don't mind saying that it was me who made a complaint, as will
probably be clear as you read through the thread. I do accept that my
own comments can sometimes be controversial, but I feel they are usually
based upon reasoned argument, as compared to the level of trolling &
inanity from a handful of other people.
In the case of individual who made the comments in the post I complained
about, I do know him personally & feel that the thread got out of
control as a result of personal problems (which are his business), but
which are nonetheless spilling over into a public display of hostility
toward others.
Hopefully in this case it is a one-off incident which won't be repeated
once he has a chance to sober up & reflect on his comments. But there
are still two other repeat stirrers, who are also shown in the thread, &
while it is their business to stir if they wish, the results of their
childish baiting do reflect upon the site as a whole.
I think maybe the only solution is a strong does of moral censure &
condemnation at these baiting tactics. If anyone is also concerned at
the strength of some of my own comments on this site, let me know.
Regards,
James

There seems to be a BIG problem with the comments spiralling out of
control. I have taken the extraordinary measure of hiding one thread
http://bristol.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=9586&group=webcast
after receiving a complaint.
As a collective we may have to take drastic measures to ensure that the
web site doesn't get taken over by these persistent trolls. If I was a
first
time visitor to the site at the moment I wouldn't come back, not after
reading some of the bizarre comments... Banning may be in order for some
individuals who persist. I'd rather we'd not have to resort to this but
hey - what d'ya do?
What do other people think? What is the correct way to proceed here?
What ever we decide I think we need to act fast - lets try to reach a
consensus by Wednesdays screening and nip this in the bud now.
cheers
ian
