Bristol Indymedia Meeting 4/9/03

Inymedia Film Night
The Cube nights are going to be called ‘Indymedia Night’. The next night
planned is Spet 23rd and it’s also been booked for the 27th October.
We are also aiming to book the 25th November.

Film Nights
The general plan for the night is to always have a slot for locally subjected/made
films, documentaries, community films etc. In addition we would also
plan to have a longer feature/documentary and where possible the UK Indymedia
newsreel. This We aim to encourage local community projects and filmmakers
to not only submit their work but to come along and talk at the screenings
about the projects and activities they are involved with. In spaces
were we are having showings, where possible, it would also be good to
encourage local photographers top display their work. It would also
be desirable to have a n info stand with magazines, papers etc at events.

Future plans for the film nights include in October, inviting undercurrents.
In November to take an alternative look at the USA. Other ideas include
a film on the Mapuche people, a Basque film night and films from Barcelona
Indymedia.

Other film venues are in Bath and the possibility of Easton CC as a venue.

Features Menu
This needs to be updated a lot more regularly! If you see something
good – feature it!

Funding
We all need to be thinking about funding ideas, as we need a constant
supply (around £40 per month) for the connection to the server. Put
your thinking caps on!

Points of Action:
Kyra – Talk to Cube about projector & booking 25th November. Talk to
Venue about 2nd Birthday.
Ian – See if he can find Native American films. Bath film nights and
contacting Undercurretns.
Crash – Looking at stats software and a date (preferably a couple of
days after a screening) for another open meeting.
Me – Looking for projectors too.

Indymedia Nights

“At any given moment, there is a sort of all pervading orthodoxy, a general
tacit agreement not to discuss large and uncomfortable facts.”
George Orwell

Bristol Indymedia’s ‘Indymedia Nights’ are a chance to show films and
features that represent an alternative perspective to the mainstream
media. Whether that perspective is ignored because it’s considered too
local or niche to be of interest or whether its ignored because its controversial
– such films and documentaries can be found at Indymedia Night!

At each film session we will have a slot for locally subjected/made films,
documentaries, community films etc. In addition we would also plan
to have a longer feature/documentary and where possible the UK Indymedia
newsreel. We positively encourage local community projects and filmmakers
to not only submit their work to be screened but to come along and talk
at the event about the projects and activities they are involved with.

Venues
Indymeida Nights are hosted at the Cube Cinema in Bristol and the Hat
and Feather in Bath. More venures are planned to watch this space.

You!
We need you! We’d love to hear from filmmakers with work to show. We’d
love to hear from community projects with films to screen. If you want
to volunteer your time to help, contact us! Even if your just coming
along to watch the show, your support is valused. After all Bristol
Indymedia is Bristol’s only open and independent media source and an
independent media if the oxygen of a fair and just society.

“[The corporate mass-media] serve to divert the unwashed masses and reinforce
the basic social values: passivity, submissiveness to authority, the
overriding virtue of greed and personal gain, lack of concern for others,
fear of real or imagined enemies, etc......The goal is to keep the bewildered
herd bewildered. It’s unnecessary for them to trouble themselves with
what’s happening in the world. In fact, it’s undesirable — if they see
too much of reality they may set themselves to change it.”
