Hi Bristol Indymedia,
My name's Andy Worthington and I'm the author of the first full-length counter-cultural history of Stonehenge, to be published in June by a small press in the Midlands called Heart of Albion. Cover image and info at: www.hoap.co.uk
The book contains detailed histories of the Stonehenge Free Festival (and the free festival scene in general), the horrendous events of the Beanfield and the subsequent persecution of the travellers, the free party scene and the road protest movement, as well as looking at the spiritual aspects of the counter-culture. Bringing the story up to date, I look at the success - or otherwise - of the 'Managed Open Access' policy introduced in 2000, provide some thoughts on the status of free expression and human rights in the UK since 1997, and conclude with an analysis of the opposition to the current road proposals at Stonehenge.
I was hoping either to have an opportunity to mention the book on your site or preferably to send a copy for someone to review. Publication is timed to coincide with the summer solstice but I should have review copies in two to three weeks' time.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
All the best,
Andy
