hi

RE: NEXT MEETING
sorry, forgot to put this in the notes from last meeting, but the next
meeting was agreed for MONDAY 16TH FEBRUARY at the Hillgrove.

RE: LONDON IMC
Marion (ionnek) from the UK IMC group contacted me to ask if we would go
to a meeting they're having on 31st Jan about setting up a London IMC
group - to have a separate 'regional' area on the MIR site. This is so
that the UK site becomes more 'national news' than London-dominated, and
equally so the London-based IMC people can build up their own local project.

They want us to give a presentation on Bristol IMC because we're the
first regional site so have a couple of years' experience and, as they
see it, we have such an established and successful model of "keeping it
local" - at least we're doing something right eh?! So, thought i'd pass
on the positive feedback from them. Mike and i are going to go - if
anyone else fancies it, let me know.

Whilst I'm on this topic:
RE: REPRESENTING THE BRISTOL IMC GROUP
I think its really important that when any of us meet with people (other
media or whoever) to represent the Bristol IMC volunteers group, we
should discuss what we're going to say about us either here on the list
or at a meeting first, and also feed back to the group about what
happened afterward - through this list or in a meeting.

For example, when Crash, Mike, Ian and I went to the UK-IMC meeting back
in September we had an open meeting about what we would say about the
Bristol project before we went, and then posted notes on this list
afterward and gave feedback from the UK meeting at the next Bristol
meeting. This way, everyone who reads the list or comes to meetings
stays in touch with what others are doing on their behalf!

Obviously I don't mean to sound too Hitler-ish about this, and anyone of
course anyone can define the idea of Indymedia as they see it, but when
it comes to defining the group of volunteers, seems important that we do
*act* as a group. It also helps newer members of the group to get an
overview of the project and to feel involved. AND, its useful to keep
defining what Bristol Indymedia is and checking that we agree on our
definitions... since it began it has developed from a purely web-based
project into the Msking the Media day, and the regular film nights and
it looks like we're going to be finally getting our outreach ass into
gear now, so thats another strand...

Having said all this, I'll make sure I stick up some notes for your
comments in time before we go to London and will feedback on what
happened on the 16th.

RE: festivals - i assume the UK group usually has a glastonbury spot,
they definitely have a green gathering one, so we should work with them
on applying for a joint Indymedia and Bristol Wireless tent. having
thought about this, could mean a lot of people, ideas etc. but then
indymedia *is* lots of people so fair enough! Plus, many of the UK group
are from other countries as it goes, so last year at the Big GReen there
wasnt very many of them...
