When we implement the new guidelines we will be able to legitimately
hide postings that are attempts to dominate the newswire. I agree that
we need to be more proactive in hiding attempts to do this, and will try
to check the site more.
One option to combat the current problems is this:
With the DADA software you can have categories, but we were going to
just have this default to 'News'. But we could have 3 categories:
>News
>Calendar listing
>Complaint
As site administrators we could then moderate postings by changing the
category to the relevant one and that posting would be moved to the
relevant area - for this to work we would need a link to a Complaint
area, like we currently have to hidden articles.
Then anyone having a non-news rant about any aspect of b-imc/other
people using the site, but for whatever reason doesnt contravene any
other guideline than the non-news one, could have their article moved
into the Copmlaint area - i think better to call it something neutral
rather than Rant/Gripe/Moan area, or Whingymedia etc. - and people who
wanted to use the site to vent spleen could have their own area that the
rest of us neednt go into.
Or we just try to keep hiding stuff.
