[IMC-bristol] proposal to ban IP addresses

I can turn on logging and capture addresses if required. However, I
think the basic idea is rubbish.

For example, most users on dial-up or broadband will have a different IP
address each time they go online.

So if someone from UK thinks they have a solution to this, I suggest
they are wrong.

I think dada does have some way of blocking IP's, but I don't think it
is any use to us.

Maybee in the states they have fixed ip's. I have a fixed ip, so you
can ban me if you like :) But then I would just go to a mates house or
internet cafe, and spam you even more!

Oh - I can get James' IP out of his email header: from [212.56.114.26]
(helo=venables.plus.com) by ptb-relay03.plus.net with esmtp (Exim)
id 1Al8j9-000DfZ-5C for imc-bristol at lists.indymedia.org; Mon, 26 Jan

Isn't technology amazing. Maybee we should ban his IP as a test to see
if that works... :) [sorry James, no offense]

I suggest we move over the software and then just get heavy on abuse,
especially if there is a spate of abuse that could be considered an
'attempt to dominate the newswire'.

I find that if people just get their posts deleted, they give up after a
while. It's only when we leave that junk up on the site, that people
seem to just post more of it.
