hi
RE: uk/london meeting on saturday
as promised, thought i should put down what i'm planning to do for a
presentation to the uk and proto-london imc groups on bristl imc's local
news policy.
>planning to show the bristol imc video trailer that mike made of clips
from videos and photos people have posted on site (as screened on monday)
>planning to talk about how, as bristol was the first regional imc for
the uk, there were questions from some people about whether there was a
need for regional sites, whether there would be too much duplication,
whether bristol could generate enough news to warrant its own imc... for
these reasons it seemed important to make very clear that this was a
project with a local focus and emphasis
>and to talk about trying to avoid activist ghetto-type problems by
taking a broad view of who the site is for, and making ourselves
accessible through events like the making the media day
>and to talk about keeping our links with the international imc network
strong by promoting the various sites as the sources of national /
international news, and through supporting the al-Muajaha project -
having a local focus for the site is not about narrowing our horizons
but about making the site, as a regional imc, workable and distinct from
what else is already available
>and to talk about the way bristol indymedia might evolve through
sticking to its local focus, through the film nights and other events
like the rob newman gig and the making the media day - bringing together
a community that meets in person as well as communicating online - this
is a strength of a local group
yada yada... anything you reckon i should add in / take out?
