[IMC-bristol] did someone pull the plug?

hhmmm...not really very constructive james...

i hardly know where to start on this issue...but here is my attempt to make
sense of all this...

1/ indymedia is a loose collection of people with NO formal structure...the
people who everyone identifies with as indymedia are basically
administrators - as such they can bear no responsibility for what people
post - THERE IS NO EDITORIAL TEAM!!! - WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR OTHER
PEOPLE'S VIEWS!!!
cool...now i have that off my chest i can proceed :)

2/ as a woman i recognise the patriachal restrictions and behaviour of the
society around me...i work with it on a daily basis to lesser or greater
degrees...
- putting these two things together - i do not find zaskar's comments any
more sexist than a lot of others i meet on a daily basis - he isn't
PROMOTING sexism any more than i am PROMOTING sexism when i say 'men are...'
...it is my opinion - i am entitled to it. i could be right or i could be
wrong ...who is to judge?
indymedia is a local news site...it is not there to only feature work that
represents a small minority of peoples views - it has not had a small group
of self-appointed people tweaking the language...it is people's opinions -
they can be racist/sexist/homophobic etc...and some probably are - i repeat,
however- IT IS NOT THE JOB OF THE ADMINISTRATORS TO SET A TONE FOR THE POSTS
AND TO EDIT THEM TO FIT THIS - THEY ARE ADMINISTRATORS WHO TRY TO MAKE THE
SERVER WORK!!

3/ finally, indymedia is kept alive by people doing boring but necessary
tasks...this kind of thread is unnecessary. if V finds Zaskar's comments
unnecessary - tell him - please - you are both grown adults with your own
lives and beliefs! as a woman involved with indymedia and various other
technically bent areas i constantly find peoples behaviour/language
unreasonable and sexist - i tell them - i know it could well make me
unpopular but i see it as my reponsibility. if indymedia isn't what you
want it to be - change it. it only exists as long as people are there to
post and other are there to enable that...this constant bickereing is both
annoying and far more than that saps valueble time that could be used to
actively support the site rather than get involved with peoples personal
issues - because that is what it is...i will repeat for the last time - WE
ARE NOT EDITORS - THE ARTICLES THAT APPEAR ARE NOT OUR OPINION - THE ONLY
TIME WE WILL INTERVENE IS WHEN THEY CAN BE DEMONSTRATED TO HAVE PROMOTED
RACISM/SEXISM ETC. OR ARE OVERTLY PARTY POLITICAL (another difficult issue
:)

so please - how about accepting each other as humans with good intentions
and offering advice about how it feels and why rather than just slanging and
accusing!?
