Newssite in Goa (India)
hi new imc people,
this is kind of along the lines of what matthew wrote and what blue
commented on following that post. this is also a topic that has been
floating around in the network for about 2 years. and it has to do
with our relationships with our allies and with groups who would
really probably like to retain more of their own identity than to
"become an indymedia site"....but they still want to have a
connection with us.
we've thought about having concentric circles of participation where
the core is for people who are committed to the principles and
criteria and want to join the network formally. the next circle
would be for close affiliates, people who sign on to open publishing
and some basic standards so we could even call them affiliates in the
first place....we'd have to develop some criteria like we did for the
principles of unity etc.......
and then the next circle out would be allies....
and we could have a way of identifying these for people who visit our
site, and to support these great groups and their work....without
them having to buy in all the way to indymedia way of doing things,
but also a way to show our solidarity....
we need something like this. we need to collectively think how this
would work and experiment with it.
so we have the cities list for members
we have the affiliates list for ummmm affiliates
and allies for allies....
the criteria seems to me to be the more challenging thing and then
getting the "network" to get this idea. but perhaps if some people
start thinking about why this is a good idea....strengthening the
larger network of networks and not only thinking in terms of
indymedia, then maybe we'd have achieved multiple goals and be
building even stronger communications network.
solidarity

In sum, we are an army of dreamers, and therefore invincible. How
can we fail to win, with this imagination overturning everything.
