Hi all,
We need to finalize the feature title (today hopefully).
This was sent to the www-features@lists.indymedia.org mailing list, based
on a question of one of the members of the list (who posted the TABD
feature to the global wire).
I think we should talk through the title of current feature issue at
meeting today and get a final decision and give the www feature group a
response.
I'll be at the meeting by 4pm, probably won't be able to make the 1pm
because I'm still doing house chorees.
Best, Doug
Josh,
The feature title has been changed back (at this point) to the original
title with slight change: vampirism becomes vampires. This is still in
process of decision being finalized.
Since you raise the issue on the list of what is the process for this, I'll
respond here.
As far as process:
In Chicago, we have an editorial working group that manages the wire by
consensus.
The original feature content was posted through consensus of editors.
But the title (not the content) was changed at last minute to fit a new
photo (of a vampire poster with activist dressed like businessman
vampire) and the tone of the coverage and one of themes of the march
(transnational corporations as vampires).
One of the center column folks didn't like the title (not me!) so changed
it (seemingly a bit out of process--it's not clear how many folks were
consulted about this change).
Observation: During course of coverage of protests over several days it is
hard to find a good process locally.
This is one reason why I think international support, editorially, is a
really helpful part of the indy network.
After talk and argument (such as by myself in favor of the word
"vampires"), we now seem to be leaning toward something like that. But the
decision process is not complete yet. Editors are hard to get ahold of
this weekend! Being busy.
So, I think in future we need to rethink last minute process... I suggested
that the www-features process might be a good way to go.
I am going to forward this to imc chicago list so they are aware of this
discussion. Till now I was keeping you informed about decisions. But now
this is a discussion based on your question.
Best, Doug
