Hi everyone,

Can someone proof the feature below and post to the cimc center column?

It is a rough draft in html.

This needs to go up soon.

One thing. It needs a photo or graphic.
The exec or pig shot from this page could be used...:
http://www.azone.org/notabd/main.html

Note: I did not take the approach of building this up as the first
Chicago-based "global justice" protest. The protests might well be a flop.
I stuck to the issues and event.

Note 2: We need to talk about organizing coverage for this event. Like: We
need to have our office open and people manning the wire/center column,
etc. We need to get in touch with midwest imcistas to see if they are coming.

Note 3: Some more links from the call to action article could be included
at the end of this feature.

The feature is based on this article (cribing some copy):
http://chicago.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=14715&group=webcast
And this website: http://www.azone.org/notabd/main.html

Let me know if you need me to do more.
Thanks, Doug

Protests Against TABD in Chicago!
November 7-8, 2002

<P>
<a
href="http://chicago.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=14715&group=webcast">Protests</a>
are being organized against the Trans-Atlantic Business Dialog meetings in
Chicago November 7-8, 2002. A protest march will be held in the afternoon
of November 7 and civil disobedience actions on November 8.

<P>The <a href="http://tabd.org/">TABD</a>, an exclusive group of corporate
CEOs and senior-level government officials from the United States and
European Union (i.e. "the global north"), is a decision-making group for
the World Trade Organization. The TABD summits function as a forum for
architects of neo-liberal economic globalization to plan the demolition of
"trade barriers" (labor rights, enviromental protections, cultural heritage).

<P>This year, TABD will be co-chaired by two of the world's largest weapon
manufacturers, Chicago-based Boeing for the US and the BAE Systems for the
EU. The TABD agenda for Chicago includes
<a href="http://www.azone.org/notabd/main.html">strategizing</a> how to
capitalize on the war economy.

<P>Protests were held in Cincinnati in November, 2000, against TABD, where
over 50 protesters were arrested [link:
http://www.citybeat.com/tabd/index.html]. Chicago police are rumored to be
organizing to suppress the protests as was recently done in the <a
href="http://indymedia.org/archive/features/2002/09/2002-09.html#5250">criminalization
of dissent</a> and violation of civil liberties by police and officials in
Washington, D.C., during the recent <a
href="http://indymedia.org/archive/features/2002/09/2002-09.html#5236">anti-WEF
protests</a>, which were attended by <a
href="http://chicago.indymedia.org">Chicago police</a> (see CIMC Sept. 28
center column feature).
