Garth, Derek, all,
I pretty much agree with your comments, Garth. The only thing I'd like to
add is that the Internet provides a qualitative leap in communications
ability, even beyond conference calls. The net enables many-to-many
communication, meaning that individuals and groups may seamlessly interact
with any other individuals and groups, anywhere in the world -- given
access, free software, and unrestricted information routing.
Nothing quite matches the functionality of email and listserves, and of
course the web is unrivaled for user-friendliness and diversity of (recent)
information.
It is primarily for this ease of distribution over the net that I am with
Chicago Indymedia because it allows me as a journalist to document news and
distribute it to a worldwide audience, "myself."
