Subject: [Imc-chicago] Middle East Book Author to speak in Chicago
Date: 21 Apr 2003 15:47:49 -0700
Attention Indy Media,
Author Dorothy Drummond will be presenting on her current and timely book
"Holy Land, Whose Land? Modern Dilemma, Ancient Roots" in Chicago between
May 1 and May 14. I would like to try to have her interviewed by the IMC.
Her schedule is posted below.
The book "Holy Land, Whose Land? Modern Dilemma, Ancient Roots" by Dorothy
Drummond is directly related to the current tensions in the Middle East, a
problem that will be the next focus of world concern once Saddam is gone,
according to President Bush.
HEADLINE on APRIL 8, 2003 in Reuters and WASHINGTON POST:
Bush to Focus on Palestinians After Saddam Is Gone
President Bush: "Peace in the Middle East will require overcoming deep
divisions of history and religion."
SYNOPSIS:
"Holy Land, Whose Land? Modern Dilemma, Ancient Roots" is a non-biased,
highly accessible examination of the roots of the Middle East conflict. It
lays out all the major players, places, and events that have shaped today's
conflict in the Middle East, describing in detail those "deep divisions of
history and religion," allowing the reader to finally understand the
headlines that appear every day. The Midwest Book Review says: "Holy Land,
Whose Land is a solid, carefully researched, deftly written, issues oriented
examination of the lands of Jerusalem and Israel, the bloody strife that
rends them today, and lengthy, tangled, troubled history of their past.
Drummond offers both a critical analysis of current tensions as well as
introspective study of history since Biblical times that is unusually
accessible to the non-specialist general reader. Holy Land, Whose Land? is
a "must-read" for anyone who seeks to better understand the tragedy of
contemporary international events taking place in the Middle East today."
"Holy Land, Whose Land?" stands out from others on its same subject with 30
detailed maps, photographs of the authors own travels to the Holy Land, a
glossary of terms relative to the Middle East, a place name index, an
important person index, a bibliography and resource list for further
research on the Holy Land.
The book was also endorsed by Lee Hamilton, Vice Chair of the National
Commission on Terrorist Attacks (formed to investigate the Sept. 11
attacks), who says, "Drummond traces the complex history of the Holy Land
over four millennia in an intelligent and accessible style. Her solid
research and thoughtful personal reflections underscore that the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict can only be resolved through the arduous,
step-by-step, search for peace."
BIO:
Dorothy Drummond is the former president of the National Council for
