On Monday 8/25/03, while organizers were in a regularly scheduled
meeting with city officals, Chicago P{olice came in and shut down the
workers center destroying the shelter they had made.

There was one arrest of a worker who refused to leave but he was later
released.

Tuesday 8/26: Workers unaware of the closure reported to the site and
were rebuffed by police, a sign had been erected by the city stating
that the site was closed and had been moved to a K-Mart parking lot on
Central Park and Addison.

Jessica Aranda of the Latino Union stated that this is the third time
that these workers have been moved. Workers could be heard chanting in
Spanish "Day Laborers united will never be defeated" and "Here we are,
we're not leaving, if you throw us out we'll come back"

A day laborer named Thomas stated "They didn't tell people what was
going on, they just threw people out, this is the third time we are
moved"

Jessica Aranda stated that there will be a demonstration on labor day.

Tom Robb Reporting from 5111 N. Pulaski in the Albany Park Neighborhood
on Chicago's north West Side for WZRD and Chicago Indymedia.
