[CIMC-work] Fw: [IMC-Process] reminder: proposal: Topic IMCs

CIMC,

I think that there is value in several varieties of IMC collections/sites --
geographic, event-specific, media-specific, and topic-specific. An
effective global catagorization/search mechanism could fill one part of
this benefit, but IMC is a volunteer effort and the enthusiasms of each
volunteer is the driving force for IMC's energy.

I belive that topic-specific efforts would involve more such volunteer
effort, by some who have chosen to focus their efforts on a specific
topic. If so, and if energy is not DIVERTED from the local IMC efforts
(i.e. the site is run by 'new' volunteers) then I'd agree to the proposal.

However, there already exist websites devoted to specific topics (voting,
environment, etc.). What would distinguish an IMC "biotech" site from a
similar effort outside IMC? Would it be the "news" aspect of IMC? Would
the IMC site provide links to 'all' other related efforts? ...
The proposed "combining ongoing coverage, background information with
actions and global politics at summits and other events" leaves that
unclear.
