BACKGROUND
Since September 2001, 8th Day Center for Justice has been hosting a
bi-weekly radio show on WLUW, Independent Community Radio. WLUW
programing, which is rarely heard on other stations, includes progressive
social and political analysis, the voice of various ethnic communities and
up and coming music groups: Radio Free Chicago, Raggae Vibes, Hip Hop,
Labor Express, Counter Spin, Haitian Radio, Si Se Puede and much more.

WLUW is conducting an on-air pledge drive for operational expenses. Until
this year, WLUW was fully funded and operated by Loyola University. Last
year, Loyola and WBEZ entered into an agreement to allow WEBZ to assume
management responsibilities for the station. WBEZ wisely chose to allow
WLUW to continue its community programming under the leadership of the
managers who have made WLUW the widely recognized station it is.

WLUW represents one of the few independent stations at a time when media
control is falling into fewer and fewer hands. Every community effort is
essential in retaining such independence.

While WLUW broadcasts on 88.7 FM essentially on Chicago's North side, it is
also webcast at www.wluw.org The 8th Day, our program which focuses on
social issues from a spiritual perspective, is broadcast the first and
second Monday of each month at 9:30 AM.
