Hi, Angela. I'm a volunteer with Chicago Indymedia. You dropped us an email
re volunteering in the area of legal support. Am wondering if you have hooked
up with, or might be interested in hooking up with, the local chapter of the
National Lawyers' Guild. They provide legal support (observing, occasionally
representing, et al) at many local Chicago demonstrations, and a number of
their members are also extremely active on the local/national lecture
circuit, as well as providing legal council in civil liberties, civil rights,
and criminal cases where the state's case seems to be driven by a larger
political agenda, particularly in terms of the deployment of the PATRIOT act
and other legislative erosions of civil liberties, particularly in the wake
of September 11. The local NLG chapter president is Jim Fennerty; he'd likely
be one of the first people we'd approach locally should we run into problems
with the feds or local authorities re content on our site, et al. Jim can be
reached directly at his downtown Chicago office at 312-345-1704. I also have
two email addresses for him which follow, altho I'm not sure how often he

Our collective meets on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month at 3411 W.
Diversey. You are, of course, most welcome to attend one of our meetings,
which is a good way to get more familiar with our local work.
