Ian: we got responses back from New Mexico bandwidth co-op and a guy from
Urbana-Champaign IMC -- NM is a bit overloaded
Don: backing up database is not easy -- it has to be static -- still lookin=
g
Ian: CIMC is limited in resources -- problem is time and bandwidth in
backing up -- U-C IMC is running only off DSL and limited, modest hardware
-- they're willing to fundraise for server hardware and a T-1 line
Dick: SF IMC?
Ian: no response -- seems they don't have the manpower
Don: seems that Chicago is a big enough place -- we should be able to find =
a
cheap commercial partner
Ian: in SF, Seattle, $50/month non-profits offer co-location
Don: some groups used Lumpen for awhile -- Chicago should have an incubator
for progressives
Ian: DC, NYC both on stallman -- we should consider St. Louis IMC
Chris K.: [I know of a place with a T-1 line I can look into.]
DESIGN
Chris K.: Emily will be sending website graphics to Ian -- [Emily dropped
off press passes, 1/4-sheet mock-ups, will be sending electronic files of
her design work to me for posting to this list]
Dick: we need to listen to our readership -- we will get responses to our
redesign -- we should announce it
Don: we could put up parallel, static designs
Dick: a brief header, in the center column, to announce it
Dick/Don: the logo really needs to have the caption "Haymarket 1888", on
bottom
Dick: it could look as if it's carved into the statue base

Chicago -- what's driving the bus -- how the world works -- corporate press
portrays scattered issues, no connections -- Chicago Defender has a big
pass-around circulation, but conservative board -- Sun-Times is a little
fascist rag -- intellectuals like Lester Jackson [sp?] would be committed t=
